Djovany is thriving thanks to your help

Jhovany1 (768x1024)
Dear Holly, Microsoft, and Anmol,

Djovany was brought to Chances for Children by his birth mother. She had no hope for him when she came to us. She was diagnosed with HIV a month before his birth. She knew that to preserve Djovany’s life, she could not breast feed but yet, she wanted to keep him with her. She tried for five months to keep him healthy but could not do so. When she finally brought him to our orphanage, he was dehydrated and malnourished. We started him on the infant version of Medika Mamba and look at him now, at seven months of age! Once he is healthy enough to sustain solid foods we will be sending him back to his mother who is doing well with her HIV treatment plan.

Medika Mamba is creole for peanut butter medicine and is an energy dense peanut butter that is significantly fortified with protein and nutritional supplements. This product both helps children battle the serious effects of malnutrition and provides jobs to peanut farmers in Haiti.

Thank you for your help! Your donations gave someone like Djovany a second chance.

Erlande needed a little help

2013-05-22-18.54.35-622x8001
Dear Venkat and Bram,

Thank you for supporting a child in need through Chances for Children! Haiti has the highest maternal death ratio in the western hemisphere, leaving many children orphaned within their first week of life. Chances for Children provides hope for children in Haiti through education, orphan care, and community development programs.

Erlande and her mother needed our help. Due to chronic illness, this mother was not able to breastfeed - she wanted to keep her child at home but she did not know how she would be able to do this without endangering her child. We are now providing weekly donations of formula and this mother and her little girl are very happy. Thank you!

Enna is just beautiful

2013-05-22-18.56.11-1024x854
Dear Hardeep, Tom, Lesley, Janet, Doug, Joanna, Franck, neela, Nina, Alabama, Alexandra, Andrew, Dave, Francisco, Julie, Ryan, Amanda, Jigna, Dean, Shirley, Jaime, Tonia, Devon, and Misha,

Thank you all for supporting Chances for Children, either by donating directly to this amazing organization or by making a purchase at the Zaarly Bazaar in Seattle, where five percent of all purchases made at the Winter event were given to one of SeeYourImpact’s charity partners.

This is little Enna. She is three months old and sadly, due to high maternal mortality rates, she is all alone. Her mother died within a week after delivering her baby and Enna was brought to us by her grandmother, who suffers from seizures and can not take care of a newborn. Enna was very sick when we admitted her due to lack of care during the first month of her life. Thanks to donations like yours, she is now on a steady diet of high protein formula and she is growing and doing very well. Thank you so much for your generosity to help us take care of children like Enna.

Baby Enna

Enna1-1024x683
Dear Manish and Florin,

This sweet little baby was born just a few months ago and her birthmother died from complications in childbirth. Unfortunately, this is a common fact in an impoverished country like Haiti where there is very little health or medical care for mothers. Enna was brought to us by her father, who has no way to feed her as he does not have living relatives in the near area and no income to provide her with formula.

Thanks to your donation, Manish and Florin, Enna is now in the care of Chances for Children and will receive a month of baby formula. This is her second week with us and she is responding well. Thank you for supporting baby Enna and Chances for Children!

Give this gift » Ensure an orphaned baby can develop effectively and manage lactose intolerance and digestive problems. Your gift will be combined with 3 others to support a baby for a month.

Thank you for getting me into HOT WATER!!!!

522081_180597418760402_85607428_n
After a certain age, it is unusual to have any expectations for a birthday celebration, let alone to include the word “HOT” when mentioning your birthday. But thanks to the generosity and love of my friends, I am pleased to say it was exactly that – a HOT celebration. The kids at our orphanage in Kenscoff will all be enjoying hot showers by the end of the week. We purchased the first solar water heater and it is being installed this week. Once we make sure it is operational we will be purchasing two more!!!! Yes, you heard me right. Thanks to the outpouring of support, we are able to buy three solar water heaters and pay for the plumbing and electrical installation for all of them. One will be used for the kids, one for our laundry facility and one at the guesthouse for our visiting teams (and me!).

Thank you very much for your generosity – this birthday was especially significant and I feel very blessed by the love and support of each of you. Many thanks for making my birthday dreams come true!

Blessings, Kathi

A big day for Patterson

January2012 101 (800x533)
Dear Miten, Travis, Nabeelah, Venkat, Krista, and Holly,

Patterson just graduated from formula to his first meal of oatmeal, and this is thanks to your donation to support him during the first 10 months of care.

Chances for Children  provides hope to children in Haiti through education, orphan care, and community development programs. We now have 10 babies under our care and that means we go thorugh a LOT of baby formula every week. Patterson has been on formula since he came into our orphanage over five months ago. He was brought to us by his mother — she had this baby out of wedlock and her new fiance does not want him. She has asked us to care for Patterson and find an adoptive family for him.

Thank you for your donation Miten, Travis, Nabeelah, Venkat, Krista, and Holly! Your generosity ensures Patterson and other Haitian children will grow up healthy and strong.
