Lovensky — 1 year later

047 (800x533)
Dear Katie, Adam, Jeffrey, and Digvijay,

Haiti has the highest maternal death ratio in the western hemisphere, leaving many children orphaned within their first week of life. Chances for Children (C4C) provides hope for children in Haiti through education, orphan care, and community development programs.

This is Lovensky and if you look back through some of our previous photos, you will see how much he has grown in the last year thanks to your generosity. Your donation of baby formula allows us here at C4C to care and feed the 10+ babies we have under our care. Lovensky started as a small, malnourished infant and today he is completely happy and healthy and learning to walk. Thank you so much, Katie, Adam, Jeffrey, and Digvijay, for your generous support.

Ulrick needed emergency eye care

IMG_1865 (800x600)
Dear Julie,

Thanks to your generous donation, Chances for Children (C4C) was able to provide Ulrick with a month of medical care during a time of great need. Operating solely in Haiti and in partnership with established localized Haitian nonprofits, C4C runs programs in Ganthier, Kenscoff, Les Cayes, Ouanaminthe, Petionville, and Port au Prince.

Ulrick is grateful for your kindness, Julie. Through your donation, he was able to see an American optomologist who diagnosed his eye condition. He went into surgery for an enucleation — to have his eye removed. Without your donation he would not have survived. The situation was that serious. Ulrick is recuperating well and learning to adjust to having just one eye. Thank you again for your generosity.

Patrick is feeling much better

IMG_1817 (600x800)
Dear Ted and Pam, Richard, and Michael,

In many of the Haitian orphanages supported by Chances for Children (C4C), children do not receive routine medical care, and as a result, rather simple infections become deadly. Patrick had this skin rash over 70% of his body and was very, very uncomfortable. Thanks to your donation, Ted and Pam, Richard, and Michael, C4C could provide a month of medical care to Patrick. They brought in a dermatologist and pediatrician to see the children at his orphanage and Patrick was diagnosed with both impetigo and a fungal infection – both easily treated with antibiotics and regular dosage. Thank you for your support and allowing children like Patrick to receive necessary medical care.

Esther is sustained through Medika Mamba

033 (800x681)
Dear Venkat and Tripta,

Esther came into the care of Chances for Children (C4C) three months ago and has just finished her Medika Mamba program. She was abandoned as a baby and brought to us when she was two years old — upon arrival, she weighed less than eight pounds! She gained six pounds on Medika Mamba and the difference in her skin tone, elasticity, muscle development is all amazing. But most importantly, she is now able to crawl, walk and begin to talk like other toddlers her age.

Medika Mamba is creole for peanut butter medicine and is an energy dense peanut butter that is significantly fortified with protein and nutritional supplements. This product both helps children battle the serious effects of malnutrition and provides jobs to peanut farmers in Haiti. Thank you for your donation, Venkat and Tripta, as it allowed C4C to care for Esther in the best possible manner.

Carlo will soon be adopted

IMG_0710 (640x480)
Dear Naveen and Nghia,

Thank you for choosing to support Chances for Children (C4C). C4C provides hope for children in Haiti through education, orphan care, and community development programs. They now have 10 babies under their care and that means they go thorugh a LOT of baby formula every week.

This is Carlo — he is six months old and is lactose intolerant. As a result, they have him on a special sensitive formula and he is doing well thanks to your support. Carlo was brought to us by his father because the mother abandoned Carlo after his birth. The birthfather is a farmer and is away from home for days at a time. He also does not have extended family near by to care for Carlo. He has asked C4C to put Carlo into our adoption program, and of course a waiting family is anxiously ready to adopt this little bundle of joy. Thank you Naveen and Nghia!

Look how awesome Jameson is doing!!

October 2012 East Family Downloads 579 (384x512)
Dear Naveen and Nghia,

Baby Jameson was brought to Chances for Children (C4C) in November by his sick mother. She has Hepatitis B and was worried about caring for him and infecting him. She also has no income to support Jameson, so it was impossible for her to provide proper care. He desperately needed formula to survive his first 12 months of life.

C4C provides hope for children in Haiti through education, orphan care, and community development programs. Jameson has been with C4C for two months now and is doing great. Thank you, Naveen and Nghia, for your generous donation to allow C4C to acquire Jameson’s formula. They will contact his birth mom in January to see if things have changed for her and if she will be able to take care of Jameson. If that isn’t the case, he will remain under the care of C4C as all of the nannies there LOVE him!

Esther was abandoned in a ditch but is now healthy

DSC03110 (600x800)
Dear Peggy and Venkat,

Esther was found clinging to life by a passerby in Haiti. The woman who found her tried to take care of her for a few months, but due to Esther’s severe malnourished state, she was not able to help her. Because of her condition, Esther was unable to process and absorb food or nutrients. She was brought into the care of Chances for Children (C4C) about two months ago. Thanks to your donation, Peggy and Venkat, they were able to start her on Medika Mamba right away. Medika Mamba is creole for peanut butter medicine and is an energy dense peanut butter that is significantly fortified with protein and nutritional supplements. This product both helps children battle the serious effects of malnutrition and provides jobs to peanut farmers in Haiti. Esther has already gained four pounds due to Medika Mamba and is doing very well. She will eventually be placed into Chances for Children’s adoption program once she is healthy.

Thank you both for your generosity!

Don’t you just want to eat him up?

IMG_3594 (800x533)
Dear Katie, Adam, Jeffrey, and Rishi,

What a beautiful boy Jeremiah has grown to be. Thanks to your donation of baby formula, he is thriving under the care of Chances for Children (C4C), which provides hope for children in Haiti through education, orphan care, and community development programs. Jeremiah just turned one and is now ready to graduate from baby formula to toddler food —  they are very excited about his progress. Because C4C now has 10+ infants under their care, they go through a large amount of formula each week, in addition to the toddler formula they use for their 20+ toddlers. They are so grateful for your generosity Katie, Adam, Rishi and Jeffrey.

Jeremiah will remain under the care of C4C professionals for another year while his mother continues to work to support her family. She is hopeful that by this time next year she will be able to find a place to live and take care of Jeremiah and his older sibling, Joshua. Thank you again for your donation.

Sonel’s mother needed help for her son

IMG_1694
Dear Ana, Venkat, and Dara,

Sonel’s mother is HIV positive and cannot breast feed him. Rather than pass the disease on to him, she brought Sonel to Chances for Children so that they can care for him. He needed to be fed with a high protein formula and, with your donation, he is growing and doing very well. He was also recently tested and shows no trace of HIV. Thank you Ana, Venkat and Dara for helping mothers in Haiti provide for their children.

Achelay is a healthy baby once again

Convent 157
Dear Nora,

Achelay’s mother, who lives in Haiti, was very sick and could not care for Achelay. She brought him to Chances for Children after struggling with his care for eight months. He was in very poor health for a variety of reasons, including that his mother suffers from severe diabetes and cannot produce breast milk. Thanks to your donation, Nora, Achelay is now receiving enriched formula and doing very well. He turns one years old this week. Thank you for making this life changing donation to Achelay.
